iPad Mini 6 Rumors

iPad Mini 6 – The Long-Overdue Update to the Mini is Coming!

After years of speculation and unending tittle-tattle in the Apple community, it seems that iPad fans might finally set their eyes on the sixth-generation iPad Mini. According to the word on the street, Apple is scheduled to announce the successor to the widely popular (*bordering cultic) iPad Mini 5 in a few weeks—and it might be a treat!

From a larger display, dialed-down bezels, juiced-up performance, to Apple Pencil support—there’s a lot to look forward to when the iPad Mini 6 hits the stores. But until Apple officially unveils the long-overdue device, here are some rumors to keep you excited. Read on for more on the release date, new features, and estimated price of the upcoming iPad Mini 6.

iPad Mini 6 Release Date – The Time is Nigh, Finally!

iPad fans…pull out your calendars and draw a huge red circle around March 16. According to multiple—and relatively reliable—sources, this is the date when Apple is supposedly scheduled to showcase the long-awaited iPad Mini 6 and a couple of other devices in a virtual event (*as is the case with any other post-COVID product announcement).

As reported by MacRumors, Ming-Chi Kuo (a well-respected Apple analyst) previously announced that “We predict that Apple will launch the new 10.8 inch ‌iPad‌ and 8.5–9 inch ‌iPad mini‌ models in 2H20 and 1H21, respectively…The two new ‌iPad‌ models will follow iPhone SE’s product strategy, and selling points will be the affordable price tag and the adoption of fast chips.”

Kuo’s prediction is backed by other sources—including Korea’s Economic Daily News, ETNews, and the Japanese blog Mac Otakara.

And besides, it’s in Apple’s nature to announce hardware upgrades in March—case in point, the iPad Pro 12.9-inch 4th Gen that was unveiled last year on March 18 and the iPad mini 5 on March 18, 2019. For this reason, the rumors are not far-fetched.

Along with the iPad Mini 6, expect a refresh of the iPad Pro series and AirTags. The well-renowned leaker Jon Prosser recently tweeted, “AirTags are still on for March”—and when asked about the upgraded 2021 iPad Pro, he replied, “Also March, as far as I know.”

PS: Kindly take the rumored release date of the iPad Mini 6 with a grain of salt—owing to the industry-wide supply chain disruptions following the pandemic.

iPad Mini 6 Design Revamped – Biggest Mini Yet?

While nothing is official yet, rumors seem to be gravitating towards an exciting bump up in screen size and a sleeker design—all without compromising the iconic compactness of the Mini-series. How so?

Similar to the latest iPad Pros, Apple is expected to achieve a more spacious iPad Mini 6 screen by simply slimming down its bezels. Mac Otakara and Ming-Chi Kuo suggest that the upcoming device will sport an 8.4-inch and 8.5 to a 9-inch display, respectively.

Display size aside, CAD renders released by Pigtou and @xleaks7 suggest that we might be treated to a complete overhaul in design. The pair—who have released on point renders in the past—believe that the iPad Mini 6 will boast of a particularly high screen-to-body ratio. It will likely have compact dimensions of 203.2 x 134.8 mm and a thickness of 6.25 mm—housing a 9.15-inch display.

iPad Mini 6 CAD renders (Source: Pigtou & @xleaks7)

As shown in the rendered images, the device may go against everything we’ve grown to associate with Apple by incorporating a punch-hole selfie camera. Pigtou and @xleaks7 further believe that the iPad will feature Touch ID on either the power button or under-display.

There are also suggestions that a Mini LED for Apple products has been in the pipeline for a while now—and we might get a glimpse of the OLED-esque experience sooner than later.  We’ll have to wait and see whether the display debuts in the March 2021 unveiling, or not.

iPad Mini 6 Rumored Specs and Features

  • Processor: An upgraded processors/chipset is a must-have in the tech world. With this in mind, the rumor mill points to either an A13 or A14 Bionic chip—up from the antiquated A8 processor.
  • Camera: The iPad Mini 5 had a 1.2MP selfie camera and an 8MP main camera. While the iPad is not necessarily a photography device, we at least expect camera quality that is decent enough for a Zoom meeting.
  • Ports: Could this be it? Couple Apple finally ditch the characteristic Lightning port for the globally-accepted USB-C port?
  • Apple Pencil Support: Back in September 2020, the iPad Air was imbued with Apple Pencil compatibility. We hope that the iPad Mini 6 joins the club.

iPad Mini 6 Price

When Apple released the iPad Mini 5 two years ago, the devices retailed at a starting price of $399. The idea was to create something powerful, compact, and pocket-friendly. This appealed to a huge population of tech enthusiasts—and it still does, especially with today’s economic hardships.

Coupled with the report by Ming-Chi Kuo’s (quoted earlier) regarding Apple’s strategy of leveraging an affordable price tag as a selling point, it is fair to assume that the iPad Mini 6 will not deviate too far from its predecessor’s price. So, expect to nab the Basic model for less than $500 when they hit the stores.

2020 iPad & iPad Air – Features and Upgrades

2020 iPad & iPad Air – Features and Upgrades

The swirling iPad rumors built up anticipation and did well to whet our appetites before the big Apple announcement on 15th September. iPad lovers were not disappointed as the siblings of the earlier announced and released 2020 iPad Pro were finally unveiled.

The event, dubbed ‘Time Flies’, not only brought the 2020 iPad Air and an upgrade to the ‘regular’ iPad but also the Apple Watch Series 6.

Unlike Apple iPad events of previous years, the unique circumstances of 2020 mean that consumers will be looking at the new products with a keener eye. Whether it is working from home or attending online classes, there is a greater need for efficient and portable devices to facilitate either or both those tasks. For first time would-be iPad owners, there are options that cater to various needs.

Question is, how much better are this year’s iPad and iPad Air compared to previous iterations? Do they offer better value? Here are the new features and any note-worthy upgrades.

2020 iPad Air – Fresh Coat of Paint

Of the two iPads announced, the iPad Air 4 saw the biggest changes when compared to the previous generation. It was unveiled with a refreshed design, a new processor, a bigger display, and improvements in the Touch ID and the camera department.

Apple iPad Air image 1 of 3

Build

Apple called it the most colorful iPad Air ever, and depending on personal tastes, you may be buzzing or indifferent to that bit of information. The finishes, silver, space gray, rose gold, green, and sky blue, all compliment the new thin and light aluminum build giving the Air its name.

The difference in weight between last year’s and this year’s iPad Air is pretty much negligible, with the 2020 being a little wider but a little shorter.

The edges of the 2020 iPad Air are flatter, reminiscent of the iPad Pro 2020, but the bezels are still relatively large. Touch ID has moved from the front to the top button.

Display

The iPad Air 4 has a larger 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display up from 10.5 inches. Capable of pushing 3.8 million pixels, it has full lamination, P3 wide color support, True Tone, and an anti-reflective coating all aimed at providing the best visual experience. With Touch ID relocated, the display is more immersive than it has ever been in the Air lineup.

With a resolution of 2360 x 1640, it retains the 2019 iPad Air PPI of 264. The brightness also remains the same at 500 nits.

Processor

The 2020 iPad Air debuted alongside Apple’s latest and greatest processor, the A14 bionic. While the actual real-world performance of the chip is yet to be established, Apple’s track record is solid to say the least. The 5nm processor is said to be able to handle the most demanding apps with ease.

Creators should be able to edit 4k video with ease and it should breeze through the use of all creative uses. Gamers should also enjoy even smoother gameplay. To talk numbers, the A14 Bionic features a new 6-core design for a 40 percent boost in CPU performance, and a new 4-core graphics architecture for a 30 percent improvement in graphics.

The 2019 iPad Air had an A12 Bionic, and performance is set to become one of the biggest upgrades from the previous generation to the current.

Cameras and Audio

While not many people previously gave thought to the cameras on iPads or tablet devices is general, 2020 has seen the rise of many use cases that would require a good quality camera, microphones and speakers.

Unfortunately, the front camera remains the same as the 2019 iPad Air at 7 megapixels, the same camera used in the iPad Pro. The rear camera, however, sees an upgrade from 8 to 12 megapixels and this should translate to better image quality. While the 2019 iPad Air could only record 1080p at 30 FPS, the new Air has 4K capability at 24, 30, or 60 FPS. A significant improvement.

The 2020 iPad Air has stereo speakers for more immersive audio.

Ports

The new iPad Air features a USB-C port for 5Gbps data transfer, 10 times faster than the previous generation. The port supports connecting to cameras, hard drives, and external monitors up to 4K.

Security

Touch ID makes a return on the iPad Air lineup, with the sensor appearing on the top edge, depending on how you hold it. Apple claims that sensor improvements have made it faster, subject to testing.

Pricing

The 2020 iPad Air will be available in October. The Wi-Fi-only models will start at $599 while the Cellular models will start at $729. There will be two storage configurations: 64GB and 256GB.

While the upgrades are impressive, the $100 price hike compared to the 2019 iPad Air might make the buying decision a little contentious.  What’s much cheaper though is a screen protector.  Find Tech Armor’s best offering here.

2020 ‘Base’ iPad – New Year, New Processor

As far as improvements go, the 2020 iPad most definitely took a back seat when compared to the iPad Air. In fact, even the event gave precedence to the other announcements with the iPad getting a significantly smaller slice of the presentation.

Base-ic Upgrade

Now in its 8th generation, the popular device only seems to have got a performance upgrade and not much of anything else.

Speaking on the performance boost, Apple’s Greg Joswiak referenced the 2020 world events saying, “We’re excited to offer customers an even faster and more powerful experience with the eighth-generation iPad….With its beautiful 10.2-inch Retina display, the performance boost from the A12 Bionic, great cameras, and so much more, the new iPad is an incredible value at a time when, more than ever, our customers need powerful and versatile ways to work, play, learn, and connect with loved ones.”

Depending on the user, this may not seem like much of an upgrade, seeing as the previous generation iPad Air had the same processor. It is, however, worth noting that the 2020 iPad starts at just $329 (same as last year) and that price point may be enough to bring it first time iPad owners or those without intense workflows.

A Tough Call

To be fair, the 2019 iPad had a A10 Fusion chip and the move to the A12 Bionic might be enough to warrant the upgrade. It does, after all, offer 40% faster CPU performance and 50% faster GPU output. There is also the fact that the new iPads will ship with iPadOS 14.

Virtually everything else about the iPad remains the same, so current owners might not be as convinced to upgrade as is the case with the iPad Air.  To purchase a screen protector for the iPad 8th Generation you can find Tech Armor’s best offering here.

Love Thy Devices

As you draw up your list of pros and cons trying to decide which one to buy or whether to upgrade or not, remember to get protection for your devices; both old and new.

A Screen Protector for Your Phone: Why Privacy Should Matter?

There was a time, not too long ago, when computers were the absolute focal points of most people’s lives. They did everything on it: work, gaming and most recently, social networking; if there was something that couldn’t necessarily be done by hand, it was done digitally, and computers were the prime way to do it.

Many of those functions have been taken over by mobile platforms, and the evidence is clear: mobile gaming is bigger than console gaming in some parts of the world, and plenty of companies have been scrambling to make mobile versions of their more popular business solutions so workers can work on the go to maximize productivity: the majority of simplified versions of complex business solutions and productivity apps designed to make our lives that much easier while we are all on our way somewhere. Why? Mobile is simply more convenient: why take out a laptop for business and/or work, or a console when you can do whatever you need to on the go?

Unfortunately, this convenience has come at a price. One with hefty repercussions for the naive and over credulous… PRIVACY. Whenever you’re using a mobile device in public, you can be almost certain that there will be at least the odd person in any crowd with a certain malicious intent who has developed a certain acquired skill at intaking the various passwords, credit card numbers, or even making himself a VIP guest to the very private conversations you might be having with someone you might be chatting with.

In simple terms, this can be called Visual Hacking. A method of hacking that has been around for ages (you may have almost been a victim of luring your PIN code for your credit card or ATM). Today our phones hold and transfer much more personal information and access to much more information than we could have anticipated a decade ago. People are blatantly leaving the content of their screens exposed. Logins, payroll information and countless other sensitive data about you, your friends and family, and the company you work for. All of that! You need to consider if you are okay with this. Or if you should shield this content from visual hackers. How, you ask? There is only one simple and near fail-safe way of doing so, and that is with a privacy screen protector!

A privacy screen protector shields the content of your screen from everyone except you. Simple as that! This means that you can use your phone or tablet everywhere you go without having to worry about visual hackers – or people finding your choice of YouTube video less funny than you!

BUT HOW DOES IT WORK?
Privacy screen protectors have a special filter (the privacy filter) that allows light to pass through from certain angles. You can compare screen privacy filters with traditional window blinds. Except, the blinds (the filter in this case) are preset to a narrow front angle, letting you see everything clearly, while people next to you are unable to see the content of your screen. All they see is a darkened/blackened screen. In the case of Tech Armor Screen Protectors, the viewing angle is straight on, but not from the sides. In other words: Only you see what you really want to see and no one else.

Privacy filters are an easy way of keeping strangers from seeing what it is on your phone or tablet. And they are available for laptops as well, meaning you can work on your computer everywhere without having to think about anything but working. This is especially useful if you are handling essential documents, emails e.g., working on public transportation. Or just want to browse your device privately.

ANTI-GLARE COATING
You have most likely tried it yourself: The sun is out and it is impossible to see anything on your screen! With an anti-glare coating, light reflections are reduced, letting you see the content of your screen more clearly. This means that you can use your laptop outside when working, something that is practically impossible without an anti-glare coating. Please note, that the screen will be slightly darker when fitted with a privacy screen protector (due to the privacy filter).

BLUE LIGHT REDUCTION
Tech Armor’s privacy screen protectors feature blue light reduction. Blue light has been proven to affect your sleep negatively and disrupt your circadian rhythm. This occurs because blue light inhibits the release of sleep hormones, causing us to become more awake. It is for this reason that scientists recommend that exposure to blue light at night is decreased. And this is where privacy screen protectors come in handy. They can reduce the amount of blue light emitted by your device, which decreases the effects of the blue light. You will still get exposed to it, but the effects will be reduced. Without knowing exactly how much the effects are reduced, it is fair to say that using your phone or tablet at night won’t disrupt your sleep as much when using a privacy screen protector.

Bottom Line? Don’t put yourself at risk in this day of age, invest in privacy screen protector that you can absolutely rely on. Your privacy matters to you, so it matters to us, too, and we are committed to your absolute privacy.

Apple in the Big Apple: new iPad Pro and Macbook Air!

Apple in the Big Apple: new iPad Pro and Macbook Air!

New devices before the new year!

The California tech-giant surprised us all with another Special Event just before the holiday season! A lot of speculation came in with what new devices will be up for grabs… Say hello to the new Macbook Air,  iPad Pro and Mac Mini for 2018!

iPad Pro … well, actually 2!

We’ve got not 1 but 2 new iPad Pros! Apple stepped it up a notch (without a literal one) for the 2 new tablets 😉 You can choose from an 11-in iPad Pro with Liquid Retina Display and 2388-by-1688-pixel resolution at 264 pixels per inch., or the 12.9-in at 2732-by-2048-pixel resolution at 264 pixels per inch.

Both have Apple’s signature True Tone Display and 600 nits brightness. Without a home button, it’s not surprising that this doesn’t have Touch ID, but Apple makes up for it with the addition of Face ID!! What shocked others may be that the tablets are now by powered by a USB-C port and the headphone jack has disappeared!

One cool feature: the new iPad Pro pencil can magnetically connect and charge to the tablets (and it’s 5.9mm thinner). But the price is not so slim at all: with the smaller starting at $799 while the larger sibling starts at $999 with Wi-Fi only specs. With such a high cost, it would be terrible if something were to damage your new investment. Larger screens mean more chances for scratches and cracks, so a premium screen protector is KEY!! Don’t worry, we’ve go you covered with our signature ballistic glass!

Pre-order your screen protector by 11/7 and you can get 30% OFF using the Amazon Coupon!

Macbook Air

Air taken to another level. It’s lighter than its predecessor by 25% as this laptop is 2.75lb light and 15.6mm thin. Instead of Face ID, Apple made the surprising reveal that the Touch ID is placed on this laptop for additional security.

This also sports a 13.3-inch Retina Display with 2560-by-1600 native resolution at 227 pixels per inch and a 16:10 aspect ratio. Its Force Touch Trackpad is also 20% larger for better control and navigation.

Instead of a Lightning Cable, this will be connected with a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C). Price starts at $1199 and will be available by November 7. To get yours, you can check out Apple’s website now!

Mac Mini

After a long wait for most, we’ve got a new Mac Mini with a lot of new specs! It’s packed with the new eighth-generation quad-core and 6-core processors and can be connected with the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C), HDMI 2.0 and USB 3.

Storage starts at 128GB and can be configured up to 2TB SSD. While price starts at $799. Same with the Macbook Air, it will be available by November 7. Order yours here!

iPad Pro 10.5”: the reviews are in

iPad Pro 10.5”: the perfect computer replacement?

Is Apple’s newest iPad an awesome must-have? Short answer? YES

Just this WWDC 2017, the California-tech giant released the new iPad Pro 10.5-inch!

Apple has been pushing the iPad as the perfect replacement for a computer. Is it worth it? How are the reviews so far? And as always we’re here to help you out!

Pros

The less-bezel display is considered as one of the new eye-catching features in this iPad Pro generation. One review considered it as the perfect middle ground for your iPad needs. While another called it the Goldilocks tablet.

Both are giving a nod to the upgrade in the display without sacrificing the weight. It still weighs around less than a pound too! Making it more portable and versatile. Another display pro is the ProMotion Technology which smartly adjusts the refresh rate up to 120Hz for smoother scrolling and motion.

While the tablet is also considered future-proof. Especially with the upcoming iOS11 upgrade. It has better interface on reading print handwriting to for those who take notes. There’s more room for typing too thanks to the full-size on-screen keyboard or full-size Smart Keyboard. The added 10.6 millimeters really helped according to this review.

Other notable specs are: 600 nits brightness, ultralow reflectivity and wide color gamut to name a few.

Cons

One probably big con for this reviewer is the price. It starts at a whopping $649 for Wi-Fi only and $799 for Wi-Fi and Cellular.

Another discusses the TrueTone display as just making the color of the display more yellow. The Smart Keyboard is also considered expensive at $159 which is a must for professionals to maximize use of the tablet.

While this mentions we might have not yet seen the full power of the tablet until iOS11 is released. And to just wait until then if this is worth buying.

There are still some reviews like this one claiming this iPad Pro is still not ready as a laptop replacement. Especially with its price just a stone throw away from the Macbook Pro which has more possibilities right now.

Seems Apple’s not kidding with the high prices…

Apple iPad line: the current news on the tablet

Apple iPad line: the current news on the tablet

What developments happened in the iPad line so far?

Apple’s got a lot under their sleeves this year. Just in their iPad line alone, there’s already so much happening! And as always, we’ve got you covered! 😉

What’s happened so far?

It’s one of the first from the US tech giant to silently announced a new iPad. Incidentally simply called iPad as publicized just through a press release last March. This is considered as a first, since before it has enjoyed its own event announcement.

The new “iPad (2017)” or “iPad (5th generation)” “new iPad 9.7,” so not to confuse with Apple’s other tablets, is sold at an affordable price that starts at $329. Quite a number of reviews have already been released about it!

A great and most noticeable pro for the new tablet is it’s quite affordable. You also get to experience having an iPad without the super expensive cost it’s known for.

The new tablet is powered by Apple’s dual-core A9 chipset and 2GB RAM. As with the other iPads, it also uses the known Retina Display.

While one considered con is it can be harder to use under the sun; the tablet  does not have lamination and anti-reflectivity.

You might hear some clunking too when tapping on the glass display since the LCD isn’t laminated to the glass (unlike the other iPads). And there’s no True Tone Display.

What can we expect in the coming weeks?

Talks about a new iPad Pro 2 10.5-inch currently in the works continue to go around.

A second-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro is also expected to be announced. It’s been said these upcoming tablets will have an A10X Processor and upgraded internals.

Previous rumors predicted a March or April launch (along with the Apple Campus opening).. Now the anticipated announcement schedule is either May or June; and may or may not coincide with the WWDC.

The 10.5-inch iPad Pro will probably be the highlight or basically what everyone’s excited about since it is said to be a great refresh from all the other iPads.

It’ll sport a bezel-less screen while still having the same size as the 9.7-inch iPad. It’ll be quite reminiscent to the Infinity display Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ has.

Market analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also expects it the new type of iPad is targeted for the educational and professional sector as one of the high end tablets they can utilize.

So many to choose from. What can be the best to get?

We’ve got that too! Read on to know more about the pros and cons for the current iPad line in the market.

What they all have in common:

  • All have the Silver, Gold and Space Gray colors
  • Choice of Wifi only and Wifi + Cellular models
  • Runs on iOS 10
  • Have 3.5 mm headphone jack
  • Touch ID

iPad Pro Line

It’s considered as Apple’s top of the line tablets. They also market this as a mini-PC— substituting the laptops.

Consumers can choose from the 2 options it has: the 12.9-inch and 9.7-inch displays.

This line is powered by the A9X generation chip. The iPad Pro tablets are the only Apple tablets compatible with the Apple Pencil, Smart Connector and Smart Keyboard.

Between the two, the huge Retina display of the 12.9-inch, its 2732-by-2048 resolution and 4GB memory is a few of its biggest perk.

While the 9.7-inch iPad Pro contains the most features between the two. It’s the only iPad so far that sports Apple’s True Tone and Wide Color Display technology. And only one that has the True Tone Flash. Plus it’s more portable and the only one in the entire iPad line to have the Rose Gold color option.

iPad Mini 4

This iPad is the smallest Apple tablet in the market. It has 7.9-inch Retina Display and runs on the A8 chip. It definitely is one of the most portable given its full size of 5.3-inch height and 8.0-inch width but still mighty powerful.

iPad (2017, 5th generation, 9.7)

The newest of the bunch. It’s greatest strength is the price. In a way, it’s an enhanced iPad Air 2 but a downgrade from the iPad Air 1. One of the cons is the air gap display. This tablet is specifically targeted to consumers with old iPads as a way to convince them to upgrade.

One of the magical question for some: how much is it?

Price range for the iPad (2017) is $329-$559, the iPad Mini 4 at $399-$529. While the 9.7-inch iPad Pro’s price range is at $599-$929 and the 12.9-inch iPad Pro starts at $799 to a whopping $1,129.

So far, so great! But still pretty expensive…
