Google Pixel 3 / 3XL: What’s the Verdict?

Google Pixel 3 / 3XL: What’s the Verdict?

Is this the Android device you’ll come to love? Still checking out the long list of devices which you’ll treat yourself with for the holidays? Did the new Google Pixel 3 or probably the 3 XL catch your eye?

Quick Review of Specs:

Pixel 3 Pixel 3XL
Display 5.5-inch FHD+ flexible OLED at 443ppi 6.3-inch QHD+ OLED at 523ppi
Memory & Storage 4GB LPDDR4x RAM; 64GB or 128GB storage
Battery 2915 mAh battery 3430 mAh battery
Materials Aluminum frame + hybrid coating
Colors Clearly White, Just Black, Not Pink

Now, let’s see how reviewers found the new devices:

Pros

Cons

  • TechRadar’s Matt Swider didn’t like the weaker battery life which he considers is the biggest con from the Pixel 3 which can definitely limit what you can do on just one full charge for a day.
  • Digital Trends’ Julian Chokkattu also feels the same way for the battery in the Pixel 3 XL describing it as mediocre which can be very problematic for heavy users that does quite a number of picture taking, browsing and gaming for most of the day.
  • Max Parker from Trusted Reviews recommends to get protective gear for the bigger sibling as with just a week’s use he noticed there were scratches and/or micro-abrasions on his white Pixel 3 XL. He noticed some too with others who were using the black version.

That’s a wrap for the Pixel 3 and 3XL reviews! Did it help finalize your decision?

Apple in the Big Apple: new iPad Pro and Macbook Air!

Apple in the Big Apple: new iPad Pro and Macbook Air!

New devices before the new year!

The California tech-giant surprised us all with another Special Event just before the holiday season! A lot of speculation came in with what new devices will be up for grabs… Say hello to the new Macbook Air,  iPad Pro and Mac Mini for 2018!

iPad Pro … well, actually 2!

We’ve got not 1 but 2 new iPad Pros! Apple stepped it up a notch (without a literal one) for the 2 new tablets 😉 You can choose from an 11-in iPad Pro with Liquid Retina Display and 2388-by-1688-pixel resolution at 264 pixels per inch., or the 12.9-in at 2732-by-2048-pixel resolution at 264 pixels per inch.

Both have Apple’s signature True Tone Display and 600 nits brightness. Without a home button, it’s not surprising that this doesn’t have Touch ID, but Apple makes up for it with the addition of Face ID!! What shocked others may be that the tablets are now by powered by a USB-C port and the headphone jack has disappeared!

One cool feature: the new iPad Pro pencil can magnetically connect and charge to the tablets (and it’s 5.9mm thinner). But the price is not so slim at all: with the smaller starting at $799 while the larger sibling starts at $999 with Wi-Fi only specs. With such a high cost, it would be terrible if something were to damage your new investment. Larger screens mean more chances for scratches and cracks, so a premium screen protector is KEY!! Don’t worry, we’ve go you covered with our signature ballistic glass!

Pre-order your screen protector by 11/7 and you can get 30% OFF using the Amazon Coupon!

Interested in getting the newest tablet? You can order yours here!

Macbook Air

Air taken to another level. It’s lighter than its predecessor by 25% as this laptop is 2.75lb light and 15.6mm thin. Instead of Face ID, Apple made the surprising reveal that the Touch ID is placed on this laptop for additional security.

This also sports a 13.3-inch Retina Display with 2560-by-1600 native resolution at 227 pixels per inch and a 16:10 aspect ratio. Its Force Touch Trackpad is also 20% larger for better control and navigation.

Instead of a Lightning Cable, this will be connected with a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C). Price starts at $1199 and will be available by November 7. To get yours, you can check out Apple’s website now!

Mac Mini

After a long wait for most, we’ve got a new Mac Mini with a lot of new specs! It’s packed with the new eighth-generation quad-core and 6-core processors and can be connected with the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C), HDMI 2.0 and USB 3.

Storage starts at 128GB and can be configured up to 2TB SSD. While price starts at $799. Same with the Macbook Air, it will be available by November 7. Order yours here!

That’s for this event’s roundup! Have you decided which devices to get?

Stay tuned on our website and Amazon Storefront Page as we might have something in store for the new iPad Pros and the new Macbook Air. Always better to be safe than sorry! Especially with something that’s as expensive as Apple products! 😉

iPhone XR: Saving the Best for Last?

iPhone XR: saving the best for last?

One more iPhone is on its way to stores! The iPhone XR is ready to roll…

During the Apple launch last month, the California tech-giant introduced 3 phones with the third, the iPhone XR, to be released at a later date. And that later date is fast approaching! With pre-orders underway on October 19 and a launch date of October 26, we’re all set to try out the final installment of Apple’s iPhone rollout this fall.

Still wondering if the iPhone XR is the best model for your needs? Let’s get the rundown going!

Here’s how the 3 iPhone models stack up:

Device iPhone XR iPhone XS iPhone XS Max
Display 6.1-in Liquid Retina (LCD) HD display 5.8-in Super Retina (OLED) HD display 6.5-in Super Retina (OLED) HD display
Pixel Resolution 1792×828 pixel resolution at 326 ppi 2436×1125 pixel resolution at 569 ppi 2688×1242 pixel resolution at 458 ppi
True Tone Yes
Chip A12 Bionic Chip
Camera Rear: 12 MP

Front: 7MP TrueDepth

Rear: Dual 12 MP cameras

Front: 7MP TrueDepth

Notable Camera Features All-new Depth Control, Portrait Lighting
Face ID Yes
Colors Yellow, Coral, White, Black, Blue, (Product) Red Gold, Space Gray, Silver
SIM Card Dual SIM (nano-SIM and eSIM only)

While the phone may not be here yet, some reviewers got their hands on one and offered some first impression notes on the device! Let’s check out some of their thoughts…

  • The Verge’s Nilay Patel first impression review predicts that the variety of colors will sell the iPhone XR over the XS with (Product) Red as the best and striking color. Plus, it has portrait mode even with just single lens unlike last year this mode was exclusive to those with dual lens or the iPhone X.

  • Engadget sees quite a full premium smartphone without shelling out a huge $1,000. The iPhone XR was somehow able to combine the perks of the iPhone 8, 8 Plus and iPhone 10. Though some were sacrificed like the display or aluminum finish to keep the cost down.
  • CNET’s Scott Stein says the iPhone XR is still worth considering as it has the biggest LCD screen among the 3 for those who prefer that; it’s powered by the same A2 Bionic processor chip as the 2 XS devices and it sports Face ID.
  • TechRadar’s Gareth Beavis initially feels this device is chunkier which can be quite a con for some. For camera fanatics, one rear camera may not be enough.

Swayed to buy one?

Awesome! You can check out Apple’s page on how to get the iPhone XR (if you haven’t ordered one yet). Then you can browse our website or our Amazon Storefront to pre-order protection for your new device! As always, Tech Armor will always have you covered! 😉

LG V40 ThinQ: your next phone?

LG V40 ThinQ: your next phone?

It’s officially here folks! With an interesting feature too!

Yes folks, LG recently announced its new phone, the LG V40 ThinQ with one interesting twist: 5 cameras. You read that right… 5 cameras in one device!! Plus other upgrades were introduced too. Could this be the device you’ve been waiting for? Read on for more info!

Let’s go first with the specs:

First off, the LG V40 ThinQ has a 6.4” QHD+ OLED FullVision Display and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. It’s got a notch too by the way. While the breakdown of the cameras are 3 at the back while 2 on the front.

The 3 rear cameras shoot at the same time with the following photos: standard, telephoto zoom and super wide-angle.

While the front shoots 2 selfie photos at the same time: standard and wide (mostly for a huge group photos)

The audio is tuned with Meridian giving it a boombox speaker, Quad DAC and DTS:X 3D Surround Sound.  It’s also one of the few that still has a headphone jack!

Available in Aurora Black and Moroccan Blue in the US.

Release will be on October 18.

There’s also initial reviews out! Let’s check them out:

CNET’s Lynn La gave it a 8.8 over 10 as it gives out a number of photo options and still easy to hold even with the huge screen. Also one of the very few devices that has a headphone jack.

Android Central’s Andrew Martonik gives it 4 out of 5 stars highlighting the perks of the wide-angle camera as a favorite perk to mix up different photos. Combination of the 3 cameras with LG’s software make the device a downright fun phone to shoot with.

The Verge’s Dan Seifert gives the device a good 8 over 10 score highlighting fast performance and great camera system. While cons can be that LG is still quite slow with software updates.

While Business Insider’s Antonio Villas-Boas says it has “the most versatile camera system on a smartphone to date” as he talks about the cameras of the LG device. Its DAC has better sounds compared to other premium smartphones which can be more evident with music better for it.

Then BGR’s Chris Smith says maybe just hold your horses a bit as there may be a bit more upcoming surprises down the road…that might be worth your while.

Android Authority’s David Imel says the battery of 3,300mAh is a bit small for their liking given the big screen (we can help solve that problem though 😉 )

TechRadar’s Matt Swider gives it a 3.5 over 5 stars  as it may have five fun cameras but may not be always the best and the battery’s a bit of a turnoff (we got that last one covered!)

Ok folks, we haven’t forgotten about the price. It’ll range from $900-$980 and may also depend on your carrier:

Verizon: $980

AT&T: $950

T-Mobile: $920

Sprint: $960

US Cellular: $900

That’s it for the rundown of the new device and initial reviews! Have you decided to buy? That almost $1,000 price isn’t a walk in the park so it’s best to keep is safe at all cost!

Google Pixel 3: Arriving on October 9?

Google Pixel 3: Arriving on October 9?

Something big is about to come up from Google!

After the exciting announcement of the new iPhones, we realize not everyone is on team Apple, so let’s get down to the upcoming Google Pixel 3 rumored to be released this October!

Source: Google Store

What’s confirmed:

We know that Google sent out invites for an October 9 event. Plus, they updated their online store with a number “3” on it (the same day Apple started preorder for the new iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max) and everyone right now is betting that signal is referencing the Google Pixel 3.

A lot of leaks have come out!

First off, a Ukrainian dealer got hold of the yet-to-be-released/pre-production Google Pixel 3 XL unit with earphones, USB-C cable and he tested its camera capacity. To top it off: there’s even an unboxing video of it on YouTube! Two days later, it’s rumored that Google and Foxconn held internal talks about these specific leaks.

One of Mobilesyrup’s readers also caught a picture of what seems to be the Pixel 3 XL out in the wild in Toronto showing two front-facing cameras. One tester of the unit forgot the Pixel 3 XL after riding in a Lyft car. Yep, you read that right! It was so leaked that the driver knew he was looking at the un-launched device. That’s definitely one of the leaks you’d least expected! All 3 sources agree that there is a notch on the 3 XL. Rumors indicate it will also have a 6.2-in screen with a 2960×1440 display all powered by a Snapdragon 845 processor.

Meanwhile, another leak shows there will be no notch on the upcoming Pixel 3 and it is said to sport a regular 5.5-inch screen (it will likely look like a mini version of the Pixel 2 XL).

The screen resolution for this smaller device will be 2160×1080 with a 2:1 aspect ratio and a battery clocking in at 2,915mAh.

Both devices are said to have an all glass front and back design and the rumored colors at launch are white, black and mint green. The mint green can also be seen on the coming soon site of google in Japan.

Interested in grabbing a Google Pixel 3?

That’s it for the rumor roundup on the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL! Are you planning to go Team Pixel this year? Let us know in the comments section if you’ll go for the smaller sibling or go all out and go big on the Pixel 3 XL! For now, let’s keep your current device armed with premium screen protection to keep it in tip-top shape (in case you decide to sell it as additional funding for your next device). 😉

LG V40/ThinQ: renders and launch date revealed?

LG V40 / ThinQ: renders and launch date revealed?

Another ThinQ ?

What’s popular right now is the tag team render from Slashleaks and Onleaks based on factory CAD images.

Render from Onleaks and Slashleaks

For the name, the rumor mill is juggling between the names LG V40 and LG V40 ThinQ (following the other latest releases of the tech-company along with their AI).

Going back to the renders, they seem to agree with Android Authority’s report that this device will be a mix of the V35 Thin Q and G7 ThinQ. The estimated dimensions floating around right now are 158.8 x 75.8 x 7.8-8.2mm and it appears this will also be all-glass with a 6.3-in display (most likely an  OLED screen). This phone is said to be 0.3-inches larger than the LG V30 ThinQ.

Speaking of screen, you might not like it, but it’s still happening… a notch on the display. The Apple iPhone X trend is still alive and well in 2018 and it doesn’t look to be going away with the new LG device. The good news is, the LG notch is rumored to hold 2 selfie shooter cameras.

LG V35 ThinQ

The LG V40 [ThinQ] will also have a horizontal 3-camera set up at the back (this is a first for LG phones)So all in all, if the rumors are correct, this device has a total of 5 CAMERAS in its arsenal! There’s also a 3.5mm headphone jack which may feature the Hi-Fi Quad DAC audio and a side-mounted power button and a dedicated Assistant button.

As for the launch date, LG senior official Lee Myung-bak said it could be early-mid October (like October 18). Although the display renders show a November 14 date so there may be a possibility it may be between that timelineHowever, Android Authority estimates a September launch with the phone being available as early as October 5. We’ll keep our eyes peeled on that.

LG V35 ThinQ

The estimated price for the new LG device will be around $700-$900 depending mostly on internal storage or sale prices. That’s it for this rumor round-up! Which rumor are you most interested to come true? For now, let’s make sure your current LG phone is armed with the best protection from drops and scratches! Google Pixel 3: worth the wait?

Google Pixel 3: worth the wait?

There’s still a lot of awesome phones coming!

The last few months of the year will be intense with new awesome phones coming up! For this weeks blog, let’s go for the Google Pixel!

From the phone dimensions, which we shared on our last blog, let’s go to the specific screen sizes. Google’s new devices will have sport a 5.3-inch screen for the smaller Google Pixel 3 and the XL will boast a sizable 6.2-inch screenNew photos and renderings are coming out for the the Google Pixel 3 and Google Pixel 3 XL. The most popular one so far is the crystal white Pixel 3 XL.

Let’s go to the overall look of the phone

For those who are not fans of the bezels, you can choose the smaller Google Pixel 3 …. sort of. The Pixel XL is catching on with the notch trend (even deeper notch from the iPhone X). But for the chin (yes folks, we got a chin) both versions will have it. The Google Pixel phones are known for having one of the best cameras around (even if just single lens) and we can expect to have an upgraded single-lens rear camera on the back thanks to new software optimizations.

Both devices will be powered by the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor and they will also have Augmented Reality Features via Cloud Anchors and the Google Assistant.

One interesting feature the next batch of Paixels may have will be front-facing speakers that will be located on the front bottom bezel. And fingerprint print sensor? Unfortunately, it will still be at the back of the devices (similar to the Samsung Galaxy devices).

Rumors are pointing to a release date that is still quite a solid on October.

Still deciding if you’ll switch to the either phones? For the meantime, let’s make sure your current phones are protected from scratches, drops, fiascos!

Explore our new and improved Tech Armor Website or visit our Amazon Storefront Page for excellent accessories for your devices! Let’s get those charged, synced and stable when in the car too!

Tech Armor ENHANCE

Tech Armor Enhance Screen Protectors: The Next Generation in Smartphone Protection

Tech Armor Enhance Screen Protectors: The Next Generation in Smartphone Protection

Defend your phone and yourself!

Keeping your iPhone screen safe from drops and scratches is a founding principle of Tech Armor… something we have focused our efforts on consistently improving over the years to keep up with new device screen technology and shapes. Keeping YOURSELF safe from the potentially harmful radiation coming from your smartphone? Now that’s a whole new angle that has been approached by other companies, but not perfected… until NOW.

Our cellphones emit radio frequency energy and there is increasing evidence that exposure to these waves could increase the risk of cancer. The National Cancer Institute also adds that additional studies must also be done for kids as their nervous systems are still developing and their skulls are thinner- smaller making them potentially more vulnerable.

Even when the phone is just turned on, they still emit radiation to get signal or communicate with cell towers. But the highest dose of radiation is when it’s near your head or even just tweeting or texting in front of your face. Yes, even the selfie could be harming you depending on how close you choose to put the phone to your face.

It’s important to note that the science is still inconclusive here, but the potential downsides are QUITE alarming. Fortunately, cell phones have been around for decades, the number of users has grown exponentially along with the time spent on these devices. That means that all of us have been involved in an active experiment and the amount of data available for research will continue to grow. We must rely on more studies in the coming years to truly understand the effects of these crucial devices.

Compounding the issue, a recent article from The Nation points to the possibility of an industry cover-up where major wireless firms have purposely pushed a campaign of disinformation to squash any scientific notion that cell phones are unsafeRather than wait for what could be decades before definitive answers are reached, Tech Armor has decided to tackle the issue head-on!

That’s why we’ve taken protection to a whole new level with our newest ENHANCE screen protectors!

Aside from arming your device from drops, scratches, and even chipping with our signature Ballistic Glass —- we’ll help redirect the radiation, increase your phone signal and prolong battery life too!

Our Tech Armor Enhance Screen Protectors use our signature Ballistic Glass with a brand new layer of CLEAR Technology from the Venti Group who has a long and proven track record in the antenna space.

“This is a commercial technology that’s been proven and used in cellphone towers and the antennas that are being used in the commercial space that’s been modified with the same technology down to a consumer product which we have here” our GM Joe Jaconi explained during the podcast with KTLA 5 reporter Rich DeMuro.

Stronger Cell Signal

Yes, that’s right… protection is only the beginning. Even though our original intent was always to focus on deflecting potentially harmful radiations, CLEAR™ Technology, when embedded in a smartphone screen protector is actually doing more. Third party tests have shown that redirection of these emissions away from the phone concentrates and provides a stronger usable signal. So, in addition to peace of mind, you can enjoy clearer calls, as well as faster data downloads, even in locations that have poorer coverage. Whether you’re on the go, living in a low-signal environment or just plain tired of dropped calls and slow page loads, then Tech Armor ENHANCE is for you!

Longer Battery Charge

It stands to reason that if your phone signal is stronger, your device is working less to establish and maintain a connection to the network, which in turn leads to a slower drain on your battery. We all use our phone in different capacities, running many different tasks and apps, so the prolonged battery charge will vary from person to person. Still, in a closed lab environment, the initial tests have demonstrated up to 40% longer battery life! For a more practical test, check out this review from Zollotech:

Google Pixel 3: notch that far?

Google Pixel 3: notch that far?

Something very popular is coming to these devices!

From the iPhone to the Galaxy phones, now we go to the upcoming Google Pixel 3 phones! Read on for the rundown!

Let’s start with the differences between the two models.

Both will have larger displays with the Pixel 3 enjoying a 5.3-inch display while the Pixel 3 XL will boast a 6.2-inch screen.

The XL will feature an Edge-to-Edge screen on the side with a notch at the top (hello, iPhone X), but the smaller version will reportedly look more similar to its predecessor. It’s expected to have 2 front-facing cameras for better bokeh imagery (like Portrait mode on the latest iPhone), authentication and possibly for wide-angled shots too. The notch is somewhat confirmed considering Google’s latest Android P mobile OS update lets users test different notches on the screen.

For those who like to run a million apps at once (guity, here), the battery is expected to be 3200mAh for the Pixel 3, while the Pixel 3XL will have a little more juice to play with at 3800mAh. Even though both displays may be bigger, the phone size will not be bigger than those of the Pixel 2 and 2XL.

Specs-wise, we may get to see a model with 128GB of storage and 4GB of RAM and another with 6GB of RAM!

Now for the similarities…

The screen ratio will be 19:9 and both will be ready for AR gaming and upgraded but still single-lens cameras. The next Google phones will both be powered by the Snapdragon 845 for ultra-fast performance.

And for the price: the new devices may reach $1,000 (or possibly more) It’s also being predicted that these will be launched in October like previous Pixel models. Just like before, Verizon is still the only US carrier—though the phones can still be purchased unlocked and used on other networks

Any leaked images of the Google Pixel 3?

There have been renderings of what the Pixel phone could look like and real life photos of the rumored device. From the photos, there’s no headphone jack and has a black glass back.

Bonus: Budget phone coming too?

Google may be coming up with a budget-friendly or entry-level version of the Pixel line that’s expected to be launch sometime in the first quarter of 2019 and will run on Android Go. This is for the tech-giant to compete with developing countries so it’s not yet clear if it’ll be available in the US. Stay tuned for more info on this one!

Excited for the new Pixel devices? We’ll make sure we have these covered for you! 😉
